Fake news is another term for disinformation. However, in academic discussions, the term is largely rejected. It has become politicized and is often used to discredit media outlets whose content someone disagrees with – similar to how terms like “lying press” are used to stir fear and resentment.
Nonetheless, the term appears on this website because it is still widely used in everyday language – often without a clear distinction between disinformation and fake news.
